We all know that exercise is good for us, is can keep us looking good as well as keep our cardiovascular system healthy. But how is heart rate affected by exercise?

After a period of strenuous exercise your heart rate goes up which is good, as long as it doesn’t get too high. The benefit to your cardiovascular system is that these cardio exercises build your heart and make it stronger. Don’t forget the heart is a muscle and just like any other muscle in your body, it needs to be worked out like the your biceps and triceps.

By doing this muscle building for your heart you are allowing it to get stronger which will make it more resistant to disease.

Another benefit of aerobic exercise is that it allows more oxygen into your blood stream which improves the overall health of all of your internal organs. The body needs oxygen, the more you supply the healthier it can become.

As your heart, muscles, and lungs become healthier you will actually reach a point where your heart rate will be lower during your daily activities.

Referred to as your ‘resting heart rate’ the lower that is on a day to day basis the less your heart has to work.

Think of the engine in your car. If you keep it maintained your engine won’t have to work as hard, that means it will last longer. The same principle can be applied to your heart and cardiovascular system.
